BEN GOSS BIRD CLUB FIELD TRIPS FOR 2008
For questions, please contact Anne Moretti at amoretti AT wi.rr DOT com or (262) 965-3860.

Sunday, June 22nd - 8:00 A.M.
Turtle Valley Wildlife Area

We will meet at Turtle Valley Wildlife Area at 8:00 AM on Sunday, June 22nd.

There is a small parking lot on the west side of Hwy P where the road curves.  Carpooling would be a good idea since space is limited.

Turtle Valley Wildlife Area is located about 2 miles north of Delavan. County Highways P and O bisect the area and parking can be found along both roads.

There are some wide gravel farm roads as well as narrow weedy paths which we can follow. Viewing from the roads is also possible. Bring spotting scopes, if you have one. There is no shade, so bring a hat and sunscreen. Water and snacks are a good idea, too.

Birds to be expected are: Dickcissels, both Meadowlarks, possible Upland Sandpipers, a variety of Sparrows and Waterfowl.

Directions from Eagle:

  • Head west on Hwy 59 until junction with Hwy 12/67.

  • Turn left (south) on 12/67 for a very short block.

  • Turn right (west) on Territorial Rd. (It comes up suddenly)

  • Continue on Territorial Rd past Hwy H to Jackson Rd.

  • Turn left (south) on Jackson until you come to Hwy A.

  • Turn right (west) on Hwy A for about a mile until you see a BP Gas station on your right. (Coffee, snacks, restrooms)

  • Turn left (south) on Hwy P, which is across from the gas station.

  • Continue on Hwy P for about a mile until you see a curve in the road.

  • Park on the left (west) side of the road in the small parking lot. Dickcissels can often be seen right from this spot!

The outing will last about 3 - 4 hours, depending upon weather conditions.
